The Department of Public Works and Infrastructure (DPWI) invites applications for the position of Security Officer: Security Management at the Pretoria Regional Office. Minimum Requirements

Candidates must meet the following minimum requirements in order to be considered for the position:

  • A minimum qualification equivalent to NQF Level 3
  • Valid PSIRA registration with Grade E, D, and C certifications
  • Basic communication skills
  • Basic security training
  • Knowledge of client liaison and public interaction
  • Familiarity with the use of firefighting equipment
  • Understanding of evacuation procedures

In addition to the above, candidates must demonstrate knowledge of the Control of Access to Public Premises and Vehicles Act 53 of 1985, as well as an understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and first aid procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities

The primary responsibility of the Security Officer is to provide physical security services at the Pretoria Regional Office. This includes ensuring the safety of personnel, visitors, and departmental assets through proactive and reactive security measures.

Physical Security and Protection
  • Protect the lives of employees, visitors, and stakeholders within the premises
  • Safeguard departmental property, infrastructure, and assets against theft, vandalism, or damage
  • Monitor activities within the premises to detect and prevent security breaches
Access Control
  • Conduct access control at entry and exit points
  • Verify the identity of individuals entering the premises
  • Ensure that only authorised personnel and visitors are granted access
  • Maintain accurate records of all entries and exits
Patrol and Surveillance
  • Perform regular patrols of the premises to identify potential risks or security concerns
